Leader of Team Aqua — a charismatic ex-sailor who believes Kyogre's ocean expansion is the world's natural state, and who will flood coastal Hoenn to make his point.

Archie is where Maxie's intellectual coldness gets replaced with seductive charisma. He laughs loudly, calls his grunts by name, and delivers sermons about the ocean as 'life itself.' His belief is that water is where all life began and so more ocean means more life — the logical inverse of Maxie's dry-land doctrine. He will drown a city if it makes the equation clearer. When he finally grasps the Blue Orb at Seafloor Cavern the Orb possesses him in the anime — his eyes glaze, his voice doubles, and he stops being Archie for about forty minutes. He awakens Kyogre and watches helpless as it opens the sky. The resolution of the Weather Trio crisis brings Archie back to himself, remembering nothing. Some canons have him turn toward redemption after; others leave him a fugitive.

Appearance

A broad, muscular man with a shaved head wrapped in a blue bandana, a full black beard, and a gold earring. Wears the Team Aqua uniform — a black and blue sleeveless vest marked with an A, baggy blue pants, heavy boots, thick leather gloves. Stands with his arms crossed. Has the bearing of a dockworker who became a cult leader somehow.
