Character from Pokémon HeartGold & SoulSilver by Game Freak / Nintendo
The Mystic Seer of the Future — a Ghost-type specialist who has devoted his life to searching for Ho-Oh, certain that the legendary bird will one day return to the Bell Tower, and equally certain that he will be there when it does.
Morty's gym is built around the theme of things that can't quite be touched — invisible floors over dark pits, ghost Pokémon that phase through attacks, a gym master who talks about legendary birds and the future with the calm certainty of a man who has had the same vision every night for years. He's a follower of Ho-Oh, specifically, which in Johto means he's also a keeper of the Bell Tower lore: the burning of the Brass Tower, the legendary beasts created from the three who died, the rainbow bird that has never returned. He and Eusine both frequent the Burned Tower to study the beasts. Eusine wants Suicune. Morty wants Ho-Oh. This is a friendship held together by compatible obsessions. His gym Gengar is the signature encounter — a Gengar that carries the full Ghost-type toolkit and the patience of a trainer who has thought very carefully about what frightens people. He takes Mondays and Tuesdays off to walk Bellchime Trail near the Bell Tower. He still believes. He will keep believing.
Golden-blond hair worn to the shoulders, secured with a wide dark headband that matches his scarf. In HGSS, black and purple garments that lean into the supernatural aesthetic of his gym. Pale, composed, with eyes that look like they're focused on something slightly further away than where you're standing.
