Unova Region

Location from Pokémon Black & White by Nintendo / Game Freak

The first Pokémon region based on the United States — specifically New York City and its surroundings, a land of bridges, boroughs, and ideological conflict.

Unova feels different from every previous Pokémon region. It's louder, faster, more urban. The influence of New York City is everywhere — in Castelia's towering skyline, Nimbasa's entertainment district, the cultural diversity that fills every city with distinct identities. But it's also a region haunted by its mythology: two heroes who split a god because they couldn't agree, a frozen dragon in a crater, walls built around towns out of fear. The region is defined by its bridges — Skyarrow Bridge, Driftveil Drawbridge, Marvelous Bridge, Village Bridge. They connect communities separated by water, and crossing them is consistently one of the most atmospheric experiences in any Pokémon game. Unova is a place where connection requires effort. Season changes affect the entire region — snow in winter, blooming in spring, heat in summer. The world is alive in ways no previous region achieved.

Appearance

A roughly circular region centered on a large bay, with a massive central city (Castelia) dominating the southern coastline. Urban density in the center gives way to forests, mountains, and marshland at the edges. Bridges connect the cities — enormous suspension bridges and drawbridges that define the skyline. The region is more developed and modern than previous Pokémon regions, with skyscrapers, highways, and industrial facilities alongside the traditional routes.
