Volcarona

Character from Pokémon Black & White by Nintendo / Game Freak

The Sun Pokémon — a moth deity worshipped as a replacement sun when volcanic ash darkened the skies, found deep in Relic Castle guarding ancient flames.

Volcarona is revered in Unova's ancient history as a Pokémon that saved the region during a volcanic winter. When ash from eruptions blocked the sun and crops failed, Volcarona appeared and served as a replacement sun, its fiery wings providing warmth and light. It was worshipped as a deity — not a pet, not a partner, but a savior. Finding it in the depths of Relic Castle is one of BW's best moments: descending through layers of buried civilization to reach a chamber where something ancient and burning still waits. It's a pseudolegendary-tier encounter that feels genuinely sacred.

Appearance

Large moth-like Pokémon with six brilliant orange wings wreathed in fire-like scales. Its body is small and dark compared to its enormous burning wingspan. When it flies, it trails embers and the air shimmers with heat. Found deep underground in Relic Castle, its glow the only light.
