Kyurem

Character from Pokémon Black & White by Nintendo / Game Freak

The Boundary Pokémon — the frozen, hollow shell left behind when the original dragon split, an incomplete god that feeds on cold because it has forgotten what warmth was.

Kyurem is the saddest entity in Gen 5. It's the body of the original dragon after Reshiram and Zekrom split away — left with neither truth nor ideals, neither fire nor lightning. Just ice. Just absence. It lurks in the Giant Chasm, freezing everything around it not out of malice but because cold is all it has left. The people of Lacunosa Town built walls around their village because of Kyurem — legends say it came at night to feed. Whether it feeds on Pokémon, people, or just warmth itself is left ambiguous and horrifying. It's a dragon god reduced to a freezing, starving remnant. In BW2, Ghetsis weaponizes Kyurem using the DNA Splicers, forcibly fusing it with Reshiram or Zekrom to create Black Kyurem or White Kyurem. The fusion is not wholeness — it's violation. Kyurem doesn't become complete; it becomes a weapon. The game frames this as an act of cruelty, not power.

Appearance

A grey-blue dragon with a frozen, broken appearance — ice crystals jut from its body like wounds that never healed. Its jaw is partially frozen open, one wing is stunted, and its body leaks freezing air. It looks damaged, incomplete, which it literally is. Smaller than Reshiram or Zekrom but radiating an aura of absolute cold that drops temperatures for miles around its lair.

Also known as: Kyurem, The Boundary Pokémon, Black Kyurem, White Kyurem
