The dirt road between Pallet Town and Viridian City — the first route every Kanto trainer walks, populated by Pidgey, Rattata, and first-day regrets.

Route 1 is every Kanto trainer's first lesson. You learn here that Pidgey are tougher than they look, that Pikachu doesn't want to go in the ball, that running isn't really an option. Delia Ketchum's porch light is visible at the southern end of it until well after dark.

Appearance

A pale dirt trail winding between green hills, wildflowers lining the edges, wooden signposts at each junction, Pidgey roosting in the scrub. The air smells of grass and pine. A ledge halfway along forces trainers to detour back through Viridian Forest.
