Pallet smells like salt and cut grass. The Pokémon Professors' laboratory sits at the top of the town and its lights flicker on before dawn. Wild Rattata chatter in the hedges, Spearow circle overhead, and Pidgey wake the village at sunrise. In the evening, Delia Ketchum's porch light is the last one to go out — a beacon for a son who has been coming home from nine regions for twenty-six years.
A handful of white-and-red-roofed houses scattered across rolling green hills, a dirt road winding down to a blue coastline, Oak's Laboratory on the bluff above, wildflowers and windmills. Population: small enough that everyone knows Ash and waves as he passes.
