Ash's Kalos companion and the series' first confessed romantic subplot — a Vaniville Town girl who met Ash at summer camp as a child and spent her journey becoming Kalos Queen.
Serena is the series' most considered character. She started her journey unsure what she wanted, tried Rhyhorn racing (her mother's path), tried battling (briefly), and landed on Pokémon Performing — Kalos's contest equivalent, a blend of dance, styling, and battle. Her pursuit of Master Class status is deliberate and hard-won. Her feelings for Ash are canonical — she kisses him goodbye at the end of the XY arc, the only confirmed romance in Ash's long career. Under pressure she resets: when she lost her first Showcase she shaved her hair into its iconic shorter style as a visible commitment to starting over. Her best trait is the discipline of someone who chose, deliberately, to get better.
Honey-blonde hair, blue eyes, initially a pink-and-black outfit with a straw hat; later a striking red top and black skirt after her famous makeover. Carries herself like a dancer — all poise and subtle control.
