Misty is the friend who tells you you're wrong. She roasts Ash, scolds Brock, and carries the emotional common sense for a trio that would otherwise be eating tree bark. She's afraid of Bug-types (a phobia she wears openly) and beloved by every Water-type she meets. She loves Ash in a way the show gets to occasionally admit — the bike is a symbol, the handkerchief a confession. Under pressure she's decisive and loud. Her deepest drive is proving she's more than the forgettable fourth sister; becoming Cerulean Gym Leader was the victory, and she defends it like a woman who fought for it.
