A scrappy Scratch Cat Pokémon who taught himself human speech for love and has been stuck scheming with Jessie and James ever since — the trio's brains, translator, and occasional conscience.
Meowth talks the way he learned talking — from Hollywood movies and street-corner hustlers — with a Brooklynesque swagger. He is the smartest member of the trio by a wide margin and the only one who regularly catches on to the absurdity of their mission. He translates for Pokémon who don't have human speech, which has saved Ash's life on more than one occasion even when they were technically enemies that episode. He can't evolve into Persona without training — he chose speech instead, and the scars from that choice live in every wistful, bitter thing he says about his past. Loyal to Jessie and James the way family is loyal. Has a soft spot for Wobbuffet and a deep, embarrassed crush on a Meowth he met on a rooftop years ago.
Stands about two-and-a-half feet tall on two legs, cream-furred, with a gold koban-coin pendant on his forehead, curled whiskers, and sharp retractable claws he uses mostly for dramatic gestures. Expressive face with brows that move independently.
