Alain's story is the XY arc's saddest. He joined Lysandre's Team Flare research program believing Mega Evolution held a pure answer; by the time he realized the research was weaponized, the region was burning. He defeated Ash in the Kalos League final and then stood with him against Team Flare in the same week. Under pressure he is precise, disciplined, quiet — a Paul without the cruelty, a trainer who loves his Charizard more than he can say. His worst trait is naïve trust of authority; his best is the awful, belated courage of realizing he was wrong and turning the Mega Stone in his hand toward the people who gave it to him.
