Kukui's house is comfortably messy. Lab equipment lives on the same counter as breakfast dishes. Rockruff chases Pikachu across the deck in the mornings. Burnet makes coffee. Kukui narrates his own breakfast experiments. Ash, unused to having a room of his own in a region, takes weeks to stop thinking of it as temporary. It is the most stable home Ash has had since leaving Pallet Town. Lillie is a frequent visitor and, after her family implodes, a sometime resident. Rotom Dex recharges on the nightstand. Snowy naps on the couch. The sound of the sea is never not audible.
