Hau'oli feels like a postcard that someone is still living inside. Tourists and locals mix on the promenade. Wingull flocks scream over the harbor. Mallow's family restaurant Aina's Kitchen sits inland; the shopping mall sprawls east; the marina runs west. The Pokémon School perches above it all on a cliff. Under the gloss: the Hau'oli back alleys are where stray Pokémon live, where Stoutland raised Litten, where Team Skull grunts try (poorly) to mug tourists. The city is the entire class's daily environment — they ride buses through it, shop in it, and walk the waterfront home from school. It is the anime's most lived-in location.
Dense, bright, low-rise coastal city with red-tiled roofs, palm-lined streets, open-air malls, and a long white beach curving along the south shore. Neon shop signs in sunlight. Convertibles on the main road. Pokémon Centers every few blocks. An ocean view from almost every window. Warmer and louder than any previous Pokémon city.
