Z-Crystals

Item from pokemon-alola by

The colored cut stones that slot into a Z-Ring — each one tied to a type or Pokémon, and granted only by a kahuna or a Tapu.

Each Z-Crystal corresponds to a type or a specific Pokémon. It can only be used once per battle, only by the Pokémon it is tuned to, and only by a trainer wearing a Z-Ring and performing the correct ritual pose. Type-crystals grant the generic Z-Move for that type (Bloom Doom, Inferno Overdrive, Gigavolt Havoc). Pokémon-specific crystals unlock exclusive moves (10,000,000 Volt Thunderbolt for Pikachu, Let's Snuggle Forever for Mimikyu). Crystals are granted by kahunas after grand trials, cut by jewelers in Konikoni, or gifted directly by Tapu. Ash accumulated seven by the end of the series: Electrium, Normalium, Grassium, Rockium, Lycanium, Steelium, and the Pikachu-exclusive Pikanium. His opponents' crystals powered some of the League's most dangerous matches.

Appearance

Small faceted crystal shards in vivid saturated colors, each roughly the size of a fingertip. Electrium Z glows yellow; Firium Z is deep red; Grassium Z is emerald green; Fairium Z pearl-pink. Pokémon-specific crystals (Pikanium Z, Snorlium Z, Mimikium Z, etc.) carry tiny iconographic etchings of their user. Cold to the touch. Hum faintly near Z-Rings.
