The Ultra Beasts are not natives of this dimension. They poured through the ultra-wormholes that Lusamine tore open in her pursuit of Mohn, and each one of them destabilized an Alolan island before being captured and returned by Ash and the Ultra Guardians using Beast Balls. Buzzwole bodybuilt across Melemele. Pheromosa stole Z-Crystals at 120mph. Xurkitree fed on the power grid. Celesteela rooted itself on a volcano for two centuries. Kartana sliced forests. Blacephalon performed fireworks before it attacked. Stakataka was offended when a statue was placed upon it. Guzzlord consumed an entire alternate-dimension Hau'oli City. The Ultra Guardians' charter was specifically this: catch them, return them. The beasts were not, in the end, evil. They were lost. Alola was in the wrong place relative to their home.
A riot of incoherent forms — a muscled mosquito-man (Buzzwole), an impossibly fashion-runway-elegant bug (Pheromosa), a tree of animate wires (Xurkitree), a bamboo rocket with a woman's upper body inside (Celesteela), a razor-thin origami samurai (Kartana), a fire-ghost clown (Blacephalon), a castle of stacked stone (Stakataka), a multi-mouthed devouring thing (Guzzlord). They do not look like Pokémon from this world. They look like mistakes a different world made.
