An elderly Normal-type who raised Ash's Litten as a kitten in the back alleys of Hau'oli — and whose departure is one of the anime's saddest scenes.
Stoutland lived in the back alleys of Hau'oli City and adopted a stray Litten kitten who had no one else. He taught the kitten to hunt, to share food, to hide from rain. When he grew too old and sick to keep going, he passed peacefully in Litten's presence — an event the anime stages with unusual emotional directness for a children's show. The Litten Ash eventually befriends, raises, and evolves all the way to Incineroar carries Stoutland's lessons in every fight. When Incineroar wins the League final later, Stoutland is not named, but the series expects you to remember him. Many viewers cried. They had not cried at a Pokémon episode in years.
