An Ultra Beast Ash befriended — a small, grinning purple Poison-type that painted pictures of its home and later returned as Naganadel for the League final.
Poipole is the only Ultra Beast that Ash befriended directly and kept — briefly. It arrived lost, was nursed back to health, and attached itself to Ash with an uncomplicated fondness that none of the other Ultra Beasts exhibited. It painted, constantly, with its own ink — pictures of the hive it came from, a place of enormous columns and glowing jelly-like siblings. Ash returned it to Ultra Space when it became clear it missed home. Later, during the Manalo Conference's late rounds, it returned to him — evolved into Naganadel, fully grown, a vastly larger and more dangerous Pokémon that still let Ash command it. Naganadel's appearance in the League final was one of the arc's most emotionally satisfying beats: the Pokémon that wanted to go home chose to come back.
Small bipedal Pokémon with pale grey skin, bright purple 'ears' that look like a three-pronged crown, wide smiling eyes, and a narrow needle-like tail. Paws leave purple ink marks wherever they go. Grins almost constantly. Later form, Naganadel: long serpentine dragon with stinger-wings, an elongated purple body, and an enormous barbed tail-needle.
