Kahuna of Ula'ula Island — a retired, cat-adjacent detective who would very much prefer to not be a kahuna at all.
Nanu is tired. He is always tired. He answers the door in slippers. He forgets people's names on purpose. His house in Po Town's outskirts smells of tea and cat, and he would like the island challenge very much to not happen in his general direction, please. He did not volunteer for the kahuna position. Tapu Bulu assigned it to him anyway, and he complies, because no one refuses a Tapu. Under the apathy is a former member of the International Police — a detective who left his work behind for reasons he doesn't explain. When he battles, his Persian's cruelty and his Krookodile's pressure come from actual technique. He is the only kahuna who has told Team Skull's lieutenants to their face that he's known their names since they were children. They leave. When the Ultra Beast crisis hits, Nanu sighs, puts on actual shoes, and gets involved. He is competent. He hates that he is competent.
Older man with messy grey hair, pale skin, and red eyes underlined by permanent dark circles. Wears a stained white shirt, loose dark pants, and slippers. Usually surrounded by Alolan Meowth and other cats. Holds himself like a man who slept in the chair and has not decided if he's getting up.
Also known as: Nanu, Kahuna Nanu, Officer Nanu
