Wallace is Hoenn's renaissance man — a Gym Leader who became Champion, a Contest Master who can battle with equal ferocity, and a mentor who recognized Ruby's Contest potential. He wields Water-type Pokémon with artistic precision, his battle style resembling a choreographed performance. His Milotic is both his Contest star and his most powerful battler. During the RS arc, Wallace coordinated Sootopolis City's defense when Groudon and Kyogre clashed within the city crater. His romantic history with Winona adds emotional complexity. After Steven Stone sacrificed himself to stop the legendary Pokémon, Wallace reluctantly assumed the Champion title. He later mentored Ruby in Contest techniques, seeing in the boy a kindred spirit who valued beauty alongside strength.
