Poli holds a special place as Red's first Pokémon — caught as a Poliwag, it evolved to Poliwhirl and then to Poliwrath specifically to save Red from drowning. This act of devotion cemented their bond as the deepest on Red's team. Poli's Water/Fighting dual typing gives Red versatile coverage, and its physical strength makes it effective in close-quarters combat.
