Bruno is the Elite Four's muscle, but unlike Lance, Lorelei, and Agatha, his participation in their conspiracy is reluctant. Lance manipulated Bruno by threatening his Pokémon, exploiting the fighter's deep bond with his team. Bruno's Fighting-type Pokémon mirror his discipline — Hitmonlee, Hitmonchan, and Machamp fight with technique rather than rage. He battled Bill and Lt. Surge on Cerise Island, and his raw physical power makes him dangerous even without Pokémon. After the Elite Four's defeat, Bruno distanced himself from their extremist ideology.
