Giovanni's Gym Badge — the final piece Lance needs to activate the Badge Energy Amplifier, and the reason he lures the Team Rocket boss to Cerise Island.
The Earth Badge is the Viridian Gym's badge, formerly dispensed by Giovanni. It's the eighth and final badge Lance needs for the Badge Energy Amplifier. Seven badges are already mounted on Cerise Island's rock spires. The Earth Badge goes over the central volcano. Lance lures Giovanni to Cerise Island specifically to take it. When Giovanni arrives, the badge is automatically ripped from him and placed into position, activating the amplifier. The fact that the apocalypse hinges on a small green badge from the Gym that Giovanni abandoned adds an ironic layer — his retreat from Viridian City didn't protect him from the consequences of his badge.
A green badge in the shape of a leaf or feather. Small enough to fit in a palm. Unremarkable to look at — unless you know it's the last component of a weapon designed to end the human race.
