Blaine

Character from pokemon-adventures-yellow by

Cinnabar Island Gym Leader dying from Mewtwo's cells in his arm — the scientist who helped create Mewtwo and is now psychically bonded to it, fighting alongside Yellow against Lance in a battle that's killing him.

Blaine is a man on borrowed time. When Team Rocket forced him to help create Mewtwo, the genetic material was incomplete — so Blaine used his own cells to finish the job. The process went both ways. Mewtwo's cells entered his arm, giving him a psychic link to the most powerful Pokémon ever created — and slowly killing him as those cells spread through his body. The link is a leash that binds both of them. Mewtwo can't fight far from Blaine without causing both of them agony. Mewtwo can only stay outside its Master Ball for three minutes before the strain becomes dangerous. Every battle is a countdown. On Cerise Island, Sabrina's Spoons of Destiny pair Blaine with Yellow against Lance. Blaine fights first, deploying Mewtwo to destroy Lance's Ultra Balls and prevent him from releasing more Pokémon. It works — partially — but the exertion drops Blaine. Mewtwo forces itself back into its Master Ball to save Blaine's life, and Yellow must finish the fight alone. Blaine's condition isn't resolved in this arc. It takes Entei's Flames of Life in the Gold, Silver & Crystal arc to burn the Mewtwo cells away and sever the bond, saving his life at the cost of his connection to the creature he helped create.

Appearance

Bald, muscular, with a thick mustache and sunglasses. His right arm is bandaged and visibly mutated — the Mewtwo cells beneath the wrappings are spreading, and the tissue is distorted in ways that make people look away. He sweats more than he should and grimaces when he thinks no one is watching.
