An ancient artifact that links its wielder to Groudon — not a tool of control but a parasitic bond that overwrites human consciousness with geological fury.
The Red Orb is one of two ancient artifacts stored at Mt. Pyre, created to link a human wielder to Groudon. Team Magma stole it believing it would allow Maxie to control the Continent Pokémon. It does not work that way. The Red Orb creates a sympathetic bond — it doesn't give the wielder control over Groudon, it gives Groudon a channel into the wielder. Maxie was possessed by the Orb, his consciousness overwritten by Groudon's ancient will. The Orb bonded to his body, becoming impossible to remove by normal means. Later, the Red Orb enters Ruby's body. Ruby carries it through the crisis, its influence pulling at him even as he fights to maintain control. Ruby and Sapphire ultimately force both Orbs out of Archie and Maxie's bodies using a Grand Meteor fragment. The Orb isn't evil — it's ancient technology operating as designed. The design just doesn't account for human autonomy.
A deep red sphere that pulses with inner light like a slow heartbeat. Warm to the touch — uncomfortably so, then dangerously so. The surface is smooth but seems to shift like magma under glass. When active, it glows brightly enough to illuminate a room in crimson.
