Wally

Character from pokemon-adventures-rs by

A sickly boy who borrowed Ruby's Ralts, trained under Norman at Sky Pillar, and awakened the dragon that saved the world — proving that fragility and strength aren't opposites.

Wally starts as the boy Ruby feels sorry for — a sickly kid in Petalburg City who can barely walk to the Pokémon Center without resting. Ruby lends him Rara (Ralts) to help him catch his first Pokémon, a Kecleon. It's a casual act of kindness. It changes Wally's life. Norman recognizes something in Wally — not talent exactly, but will. The kind of determination that can't be taught. He takes Wally to Sky Pillar for training, ostensibly to help the boy's health, but really because Norman needs someone capable of awakening Rayquaza and Wally is the only candidate he trusts. The Sky Pillar training arc is one of the manga's best sequences. Wally climbs fifty floors of a crumbling tower, battling wild Pokémon with each step, his lungs strengthening as he fights. By the top, he's not the same boy. He awakens Rayquaza — the act that ultimately saves Hoenn — and collapses from the effort. Wally returns Rara (evolved to Kirlia) to Ruby after the crisis. Norman gave him a Flygon as recognition of what he accomplished. His Pokémon: Kecleon, Cacturne (evolved from Cacnea), Roselia, and Flygon (gifted by Norman).

Appearance

Small, thin boy with pale green hair and a fragile frame. Wears a white collared shirt that's slightly too large for him. Coughs frequently — his respiratory condition is visible in every labored breath. But his eyes carry a quiet intensity that his body can't match, and by the time he climbs Sky Pillar, his posture has straightened and his breathing has steadied.
