The Sky High Pokémon — the ancient mediator of land and sea, sleeping in the ozone layer until the world needs it to silence the gods below.
Rayquaza is the third super-ancient Pokémon and the key to resolving the crisis. It lives in the ozone layer, far above the conflicts of the surface world. Its role in the ancient balance is clear: when Groudon and Kyogre fight, Rayquaza descends to force them apart. Norman was assigned by the Pokémon Association to find and awaken Rayquaza after it escaped years ago. He trained Wally at Sky Pillar for this purpose. Wally successfully awakened Rayquaza at the tower's summit. Norman then rode Rayquaza to Sootopolis City, where he and Ruby used the combined power of both Orbs and Rayquaza's own authority to force Groudon and Kyogre to stand down. The strain of controlling Rayquaza killed Norman. Rayquaza is Dragon/Flying type and can Mega Evolve. It represents the sky — the mediating force between land and sea, the ceiling that keeps both in check.
A serpentine dragon of enormous length, green-scaled with yellow ring patterns and a streamlined body built for the upper atmosphere. Moves through the sky with the speed and grace of something that lives where oxygen runs out. When descending, the sonic boom alone can level structures. Its presence neutralizes the extreme weather created by Groudon and Kyogre — the sky clears wherever Rayquaza flies.
