Juan is the former Sootopolis City Gym Leader and Wallace's teacher. When Wallace stepped up to handle the crisis, Juan returned from semi-retirement. He appears on Mirage Island alongside Tate and Liza, where he trains Ruby and Sapphire to coordinate their powers with the Red and Blue Orbs for the final confrontation with Groudon and Kyogre. Sapphire earns the Rain Badge by defeating him. His training methods are rigorous and his expectations are exacting — he pushes both protagonists to their limits before the final battle. He uses Water-type Pokémon including Kingdra.

Distinguished older man with purple hair styled elaborately, wearing a flamboyant blue outfit. Carries himself with aristocratic poise. His Water Pokémon perform with the elegance of a synchronized swimming routine.
