Professor Oak's portable encyclopedia — a device that catalogues Pokémon data through direct encounters, entrusted to three chosen trainers who become the arc's heroes.
The Pokédex is more than a tool in the Adventures manga — it's a mark of distinction. Professor Oak created only three, and the trainers who carry them are recognized as the Pokédex holders — a title that carries weight across the entire series. The device itself records data on every Pokémon its holder encounters, building toward a complete encyclopedia of all species. But the Pokédex is also Oak's way of choosing champions. He didn't give them to the strongest trainers or the most experienced — he gave them to the three people who represented different philosophies of Pokémon partnership: Red the Fighter (bond through battle), Blue the Trainer (mastery through discipline), and Green the Evolver (understanding through transformation). Green received hers last, at the Pokémon League, after proving herself despite — or because of — her unconventional path. The three Pokédexes together represent the complete picture of human-Pokémon partnership.
A small, red electronic device that fits in one hand. Opens like a book to reveal a screen and sensor. Scans Pokémon on sight and records detailed biological and behavioral data. Each unit is unique and keyed to its holder — Red's, Blue's, and Green's Pokédexes are the only three in existence.
