The mythical Pokémon whose DNA was used to create Mewtwo — a playful, elusive Psychic-type that inhabits Pallet Town's unpolluted wilderness and sparked Red and Blue's journey.
Mew is the reason everything happens. Red and Blue spotted it in Pallet Town — a glowing, impossible shape in the tall grass — and their failed attempt to catch it drove them both to Professor Oak's laboratory. That encounter set the entire story in motion. Mew lives in Pallet Town's area because it lacks the pollution present elsewhere in Kanto — it's drawn to pristine natural environments. Team Rocket pursued it relentlessly to obtain genetic material for the Mewtwo Project, eventually harvesting enough DNA from a near-capture by their Jynx to begin the cloning process. Despite its incredible power — Mew's psychic attacks incapacitated Team Rocket operatives in a single burst — it's fundamentally gentle. It observes, plays, and occasionally intervenes to help, but it doesn't seek conflict. When it saved Red and his team from danger later in the arc, it did so with an almost parental protectiveness. Mew is said to contain the DNA of every Pokémon species, making it the genetic ancestor of all Pokémon. This is why Team Rocket could use its cells to create Mewtwo — Mew's genome is the most complete biological template in existence.
A small, pink, cat-like Pokémon with large blue eyes, a long thin tail, and an ethereal glow. Floats in the air with effortless grace. Its body is deceptively tiny for something that contains the genetic blueprint of every Pokémon species. Moves with curious, playful energy — tilting its head, circling objects of interest, vanishing when it gets bored.
