The Celadon City Gym Leader — an elegant, university-educated Grass-type specialist who tests Red's character before revealing herself as one of Kanto's good gym leaders.
Erika seems soft until she isn't. She lectures at Celadon University, practices traditional arts, and speaks with formal politeness — but she's also the gym leader who threatened to kill a modified Eevee just to test whether Red would risk himself to save it. When Red passed the test, Erika revealed her true allegiance and became one of his strongest allies. The Eevee in question — Vee — had been genetically modified by Team Rocket to shift between Vaporeon, Jolteon, and Flareon forms at will. Erika recognized it as a victim of Rocket experimentation and used Red's encounter with it to gauge his moral compass. She sent him on a quest to capture it, pretending to be hostile, then saved the Pokémon and entrusted it to Red when she saw how he treated it. Erika's Vileplume and Tangela are her primary battlers. She fights with patience and precision, using status effects and terrain control rather than raw power. Among the good gym leaders, she's the strategist — the one who thinks three moves ahead while Brock holds the line and Misty attacks.
