The Lake of Rage is where Neo Team Rocket's forced evolution experiments produced the Red Gyarados — a Magikarp driven to premature evolution by radio wave manipulation. Gold and Silver encountered the Masked Man here for the first time, and were defeated. Entei carried the injured boys to the Whirl Islands to recover. The Lake of Rage represents the Masked Man's willingness to harm Pokémon to achieve his goals — ironic, given that his ultimate motivation is saving Pokémon he loved.
A large lake north of Mahogany Town, its waters churning with unnatural fury. A Red Gyarados breaches the surface — a Pokémon forced to evolve by Team Rocket's radio wave experiments. The surrounding forest is dark and dense. The lake itself feels angry, violated.
