Sudobo was captured by Gold during an encounter involving Whitney. Despite looking like a tree, Sudowoodo is a Rock-type Pokémon — it mimics trees to hide from predators. Gold caught it while it was hiding from a Rhydon. Sudobo adds defensive bulk to Gold's team and provides an amusing contrast to his otherwise chaotic battle style.
