The Ecruteak City Gym Leader — a Ghost-type specialist and clairvoyant who has spent his life waiting for Ho-Oh to return to the Tin Tower.
Morty is Ecruteak's Gym Leader and the city's spiritual guardian. His clairvoyant abilities allow him to track the legendary beasts after they escape the Burned Tower, and he uses this power to locate Gold and Silver at the Whirl Islands when Lt. Surge requests his help. He dreams of Ho-Oh returning to the Tin Tower — a dream shattered when Team Rocket attacks and sinks the tower. Suicune tests Morty as a potential partner but does not choose him. His role in the arc is one of the most poignant: the man who waited his whole life for a legendary Pokémon, only to watch it choose someone else.
