Karen was kidnapped by the Masked Man as a child and trained alongside Silver, Green, Carl, Sham, and Will. Unlike Silver and Green, Karen remained loyal to the Masked Man's cause — or at least compliant. She and Will guard the Ilex Forest Shrine during the climactic battle, using the Masked Man's Ho-Oh and Lugia against Green. After the Masked Man's defeat, Karen joins the Johto Elite Four alongside Will, Bruno, and Koga. Her transition from villain to legitimate authority figure raises questions the manga never fully answers — whether she was truly loyal to Pryce or simply surviving the only way she knew how.
