The most powerful Pokemon ever created -- a genetic experiment that chose to fight alongside Red against an alien god, proving that power means nothing without someone worth fighting for.
Mewtwo was created by Team Rocket from Mew's DNA and spent its early existence as a weapon. It broke free, fought alongside Red and Blaine in previous arcs, and has since become one of the few Pokemon capable of genuine independent thought and speech (via telepathy). In this arc, Mewtwo tracks down the injured Lorelei and brings her to safety, then offers to fight under Red's command against Deoxys. It communicates telepathically with only three humans it trusts: Red, Yellow, and Blaine. The battle against Deoxys aboard Giovanni's airship is the centerpiece of the arc. Mewtwo holds its own against Deoxys's multiple formes until Giovanni traps it in the M2 Bind -- specialized armor that neutralizes its powers completely. Red, Blue, and Green free it by simultaneously firing Frenzy Plant, Blast Burn, and Hydro Cannon, whose type interactions cancel out and shatter the bind without harming Mewtwo. Once freed, Mewtwo sliced Trainer Tower in half with its spoon and attacked Deoxys's core directly, severely injuring it. It is turned to stone alongside the Pokedex holders at the arc's end.
A towering bipedal feline-like creature with a long purple tail, massive psychic presence, and eyes that hold an alien intelligence. Its body radiates power -- the air warps around it, and weaker Pokemon instinctively flee. It carries a large spoon as a focus for its psychic abilities. The M2 Bind armor -- thick metallic restraints designed by Giovanni -- suppresses its form when equipped.
