The Velvet Room

Location from Persona 5 Royal by Atlus

The domain between consciousness and subconsciousness, governed by Igor. In Persona 5, it manifests as a blue-lit prison — reflecting Joker's status as the accused and Yaldabaoth's usurpation of Igor's role.

The Velvet Room manifests differently for every Wild Card protagonist, always shaped by their psychological reality. For Joker, it's a prison because he has been convicted — by society, by Shido's machinations, and by Yaldabaoth's rigged trial. The wardens Caroline and Justine are jailers and tutors simultaneously. Persona fusion happens here: Joker sacrifices collected Personas to create stronger ones, guided by the Compendium. As the story progresses, the prison's meaning layers — it's not just Joker's circumstances, it's humanity's situation, and Igor (who is revealed as a false Igor) has been using the metaphor deliberately. Lavenza restored is the room's true nature returning.

Appearance

A long, narrow prison cell of black iron bars and blue velvet. The floor is stone. A single overhead bulb swings slowly. Igor sits at a desk that shouldn't fit in the space. Caroline and Justine stand guard in their warden uniforms. In reality (Strikers, Royal third semester), the room shifts — the bars dissolve and it becomes the true velvet chamber of elevators and luxury.
