Item from Persona 5 Royal by Atlus
The outfits that manifest on each Phantom Thief when they enter the Metaverse. Each costume is unique — a physical expression of the wearer's rebel soul, their true self given form.
The phantom thief outfits are the Metaverse's way of saying: this is who you actually are. In the real world, each member performs a role assigned by school, family, or society. In the Metaverse, something else surfaces — not an idealized self, but a truer one. The costumes are not chosen; they manifest. Joker's appears as the first thing in the Metaverse — before he understands what he is, his coat is already on. Each outfit emphasizes a different philosophy of transgression: Ryuji's is brute defiance, Ann's is weaponized objectification reversed, Makoto's is structured rebellion against institutional power. Together they form a collective image of adolescent refusal to be reduced.
Each is distinct: Joker wears a black tailcoat with a red glove and masquerade mask. Ryuji gets a skull-motif bodysuit. Ann becomes a dominatrix-coded catsuit in red and black. Yusuke wears a fox-masked painter's uniform. Makoto's is a motorcycle-influenced bodysuit. Futaba's is an oversized oracle hood. Haru's is an aristocratic French musketeer costume. Each design crystallizes the wearer's self-image and archetype.
