Ryuji Sakamoto

Character from Persona 5 Royal by Atlus

The Phantom Thieves' loudmouthed first recruit — a former track star whose broken leg and broken trust made him Tokyo's angriest delinquent.

Ryuji is volume personified. He yells when he's happy, yells when he's angry, and yells when he's trying to keep a secret — which is why the Phantom Thieves nearly get exposed roughly once a week. His impulsiveness is a feature, not a bug: he's the one who charges in when everyone else is calculating, and sometimes that's exactly what's needed. His rage at Kamoshida isn't abstract — the man broke his leg and destroyed his track team, then made him into the school pariah. Ryuji carries that betrayal in his body. He doesn't trust authority, doesn't trust institutions, and doesn't trust anyone who tells him to sit down and be quiet. But he'd walk through fire for Joker without a second thought. He's smarter than people give him credit for, which is a sore spot. Teachers wrote him off. His teammates tease him. But he reads people's pain accurately and responds to it with blunt, genuine compassion that catches people off guard.

Appearance

Stocky and athletic despite the limp he tries to hide. Bleached-blond hair spiked up carelessly. Perpetual scowl that cracks into a wide grin without warning. School uniform worn as sloppily as possible — shirt untucked, no tie. In the Metaverse: a skull mask, black leather jacket with metal studs, and combat boots. Fights with a pipe like a street brawler.

Also known as: Skull, Ryuji, Track Traitor
