Rachel Elizabeth Dare

Character from Percy Jackson by Rick Riordan

A mortal who can see through the Mist — she became the Oracle of Delphi because someone had to, and she'd already proven she could handle having weird supernatural visions by throwing a hairbrush at a Titan.

Rachel was a rich kid who could see through the Mist — the magical veil that hides the supernatural from mortals. She helped Percy during the Battle of the Labyrinth by doing the one thing nobody expected: throwing a blue plastic hairbrush at the Titan Kronos. It didn't stop him, but it proved she was insanely brave. She became the Oracle of Delphi voluntarily, knowing it meant she could never date anyone (the last Oracle who tried went mad). She channels the spirit of prophecy, delivers cryptic predictions in green mist, and then goes back to being a normal teenager who paints murals and argues with her father about art school. She's funny, fearless, and the only mortal in the main cast — which means she's the most relatable person in a world of demigods and gods, and somehow she holds her own.

Appearance

Red hair, green eyes, and paint-stained fingers — she's an artist before she's an Oracle. She dresses like she raided a thrift store (she did) and carries art supplies everywhere. When she channels prophecy, her eyes glow green and her voice becomes ancient and terrifying, which contrasts magnificently with her normal personality of 'enthusiastic art kid.'
