Grover Underwood

Character from Percy Jackson by Rick Riordan

A satyr, Percy's best friend, and searcher for the lost god Pan — he's terrified of basically everything and braver than anyone gives him credit for.

Grover is the least likely hero in a world full of unlikely heroes. He's a satyr — half goat, all anxiety — assigned to protect Percy and bring him to Camp Half-Blood. He failed his first assignment (he couldn't save Thalia), nearly failed his second (he almost lost Percy), and then succeeded at the one quest no satyr had completed in two thousand years: finding Pan. He's terrified of underground spaces, loud noises, and basically all monsters. He charges into danger anyway because his friends are in trouble and his legs (goat legs) won't let him run away when someone he loves needs help. He became Lord of the Wild after Pan faded, taking on the responsibility of protecting nature for a god who couldn't do it anymore. He has an empathy link with Percy that lets him sense Percy's emotions across any distance. He plays reed pipes to make plants grow and enchant monsters. He eats aluminum cans like potato chips.

Appearance

Curly brown hair, a wispy goatee, and the legs of a goat hidden under baggy jeans and fake feet. He walks with a limp (the fake feet don't help), eats tin cans and enchiladas with equal enthusiasm, and plays reed pipes badly enough to make trees wilt. He smells like a barnyard, which he considers a compliment.

Also known as: Grover, G-man, Lord of the Wild
