Daedalus

Character from Percy Jackson by Rick Riordan

The legendary inventor who built the Labyrinth — he's been alive for millennia by transferring his soul into automaton bodies, and he gave his life to destroy his own creation.

Daedalus built the Labyrinth, flew too close to the sun (via Icarus), and has been running from death ever since. He extended his life by moving his consciousness into mechanical bodies — essentially becoming an AI before computers existed. He helped Luke navigate the Labyrinth, then switched sides when he realized what Kronos would do. He died by choice — deleting his life force to collapse the Labyrinth and take Kronos's invasion route with him. He gave Mrs. O'Leary to Percy and his laptop of inventions to Annabeth. His death was the sacrifice of a man who finally stopped running.

Appearance

In his final form: a fit middle-aged man who introduced himself as 'Quintus' at camp. He carried a sword and moved with the mechanical precision of someone whose body was partially artificial.

Also known as: Daedalus, Quintus
