Blue Heron Institute

Location from Pale by Wildbow

A practitioner school offering summer courses in everything from shamanism to faerie court etiquette — where the next generation of magic users learns their craft under instructors who are occasionally trying to manipulate them.

Blue Heron Institute is where practitioners go to learn — formally, with courses, instructors, and a curriculum that covers shamanism, elementalism, binding, faerie court protocols, and dozens of other practice styles. Alexander Belanger administers the school, processing applications with the kind of administrative efficiency that suggests he knows exactly who he's accepting and why. The Institute represents institutionalized Practice — the system that trained Charles Abrams before he went Forsworn, that produces the Belangers and the Mussers, and that the three Kennet girls exist outside of. For the girls, BHI is both a resource (they can learn techniques unavailable in Kennet) and a threat (the institutional practitioners view Kennet as territory to be managed rather than a community to be respected).

Appearance

An institutional campus with Western and Eastern wings — advanced students in the West, younger students organized by age in the East. Three full-time teachers, seven guest instructors, forty-plus courses. The architecture suggests a university that takes itself very seriously about subjects that don't officially exist.
