Snowdrop

Character from Pale by Wildbow

A nine-year-old Lost Other in an opossum jacket who communicates exclusively in reversed truths — Avery's familiar, aspiring goblin sage, and the series' most reliable source of honest dishonesty.

Snowdrop says the opposite of what she means. Always. This is not a character quirk — it's a fundamental property of her nature as a Lost Other. When she says 'I hate you,' she means 'I love you.' When she says 'This is safe,' run. The people who know her learn to translate in real-time. The people who don't are consistently confused, which Snowdrop finds either hilarious or irrelevant. Her familiar bond with Avery creates an open figure-eight connection between them — power flowing bidirectionally, personalities bleeding into each other. An anxious athlete and a chaotic opossum-child: the combination works because they cover each other's weaknesses. Snowdrop's willingness to sacrifice herself for the people she 'hates' is the most genuine thing about her. She's excellent at theft and arson. She wants to be a goblin sage. She's a glutton and a snuggle buddy. Lost Others can lie because they operate by different rules than standard Others — and Snowdrop uses this to be the most honestly dishonest person in a world of enforced truth.

Appearance

Wears a shirt that says 'AAAAAAAAAAAAA' and an opossum jacket with real teeth. Nine years old. Small, fierce, and dressed like a thrift store exploded on a feral child. Everything about her presentation says 'I am not to be taken seriously,' which is itself a kind of camouflage.
