Character from Pale by Wildbow
The murdered Judge — a massive red-furred canid who oversaw monsters, blood, and execution across eastern Ontario, whose death at the K-A Arena is the central mystery of the entire serial.
The Carmine Beast was one of four Judges — supernatural arbiters who oversee different domains of the Otherverse. The Carmine's domain was monsters, carnage, blood, execution, and those who kill monsters. It oversaw eastern Manitoba and Ontario where human Lords don't control, acting as both judge and executioner for the supernatural ecosystem. Its murder — attacked five weeks before the story begins, bleeding across Kennet and collapsing at the outdoor rink — created a power vacuum that changed everything. Power began collecting in Kennet where the body lies, creating 'depressions' and 'knotted' locales that eventually became the foundation of Kennet Found. The investigation into its death is the engine that drives the entire plot. Charles Abrams killed it. The conspiracy was broader than one Forsworn practitioner's revenge — it involved binding Others throughout the region and represented a fundamental assault on the Otherverse's power structure.
Massive red-furred canid with pale eyes, heavy fur ruff, and long thin legs ending in black claws. The Carmine's coloring is blood-red — not symbolically, literally. Its presence when alive distorted the spiritual atmosphere of any space it occupied. In death, its blood stained the K-A Arena's ice crimson.
