The Katze Plains were already dangerous before Ainz arrived — a 'Death Ground' between kingdoms where undead spawn naturally and a permanent fog makes navigation lethal. Then Ainz cast Ia Shub-Niggurath during the battle between the Sorcerer Kingdom and Re-Estize, killing 180,000+ soldiers out of 260,000 and summoning Dark Young (massive Lovecraftian entities) that trampled the survivors. The massacre established the Sorcerer Kingdom through raw terror. It is the series' turning point — the moment Ainz stopped being a reluctant villain and became a conqueror, whether he intended to or not.
