E-Rantel was a border fortress city contested by the Re-Estize Kingdom, Baharuth Empire, and Slane Theocracy. After Ainz massacred 180,000 soldiers at Katze Plains, the city was ceded to him and became the Sorcerer Kingdom's capital. Death Knights patrol the streets. Undead labor handles infrastructure. Crime has dropped to zero because the police force is literally undead. The city is the series' test case for whether Ainz's rule can actually be good for people — and the answer is complicated. It's safe, clean, and prosperous, but it's also governed by a being who killed armies to get here. Momon (Ainz's adventurer alias) is the city's most popular hero. The irony is suffocating.
