Drum Island

Location from One Piece by Eiichiro Oda

A winter island in the Grand Line famous for its advanced medical science. Where Tony Tony Chopper was born and raised by Dr. Hiriluk. The cherry blossom snow miracle happened here.

Drum Island is where a monster became a doctor. Chopper grew up here as an outcast — a reindeer who ate the Hito Hito no Mi and could walk like a human, rejected by both reindeer and humans. Dr. Hiriluk, a quack doctor with a good heart, took him in and taught him that there is no disease in the world that cannot be cured. Hiriluk died for his beliefs, and his partner Dr. Kureha raised Chopper to become a real physician. The island was previously terrorized by King Wapol, who hoarded all twenty doctors on the island and denied medical care to the populace. The Straw Hats arrived because Nami was critically ill, and left with a new crewmate. The cherry blossom snow — Hiriluk's dream made real — is the image that stays with you long after the arc ends.

Appearance

Perpetual snow blankets everything. Towering cylindrical mountains called Drum Rockies rise like enormous pillars from the white landscape. Forests of bare winter trees. The castle sits atop the tallest Drum Rocky, accessible only by climbing the sheer ice face or being carried by a reindeer. Small villages huddle in valleys, smoke rising from chimneys. The air is biting cold, the sky a pale grey — until the cherry blossoms fall. Hiriluk's dying experiment: a chemical compound launched from the castle that turns the snow pink, making cherry blossoms bloom in winter. It is one of the most beautiful sights in the series.
