Item from One Piece by Eiichiro Oda
Shanks's saber — the blade carried by one of the Four Emperors. Its grade is unconfirmed, its full power unseen, but it clashed evenly with Mihawk's Yoru in their legendary duels and blocked Akainu's magma fist at Marineford.
Gryphon is defined by its wielder rather than its specifications — and its wielder is Red-Haired Shanks, possibly the most feared combatant alive. The sword's grade has never been officially classified, which is unusual for a weapon carried by an Emperor. Shanks used Gryphon to duel Mihawk in clashes so legendary they 'shook the Grand Line' — though Mihawk stopped accepting challenges after Shanks lost his arm. At Marineford, Shanks drew Gryphon to block Akainu's magma punch, stopping the Admiral cold. In the Egghead arc, Shanks used Gryphon in combination with his overwhelming Conqueror's Haki to one-shot Eustass Kid — one of the Worst Generation — destroying an entire fleet in a single attack. The sword is a mystery wrapped in an Emperor's reputation: it might be nothing special. It might be something extraordinary. With Shanks, you never know until it's too late.
A long saber with a slightly curved blade, ornate guard, and wrapped grip. Unlike the Japanese-style katanas common in the series, Gryphon is a Western-style sword befitting Shanks's pirate aesthetic. The blade appears ordinary — no special coloring or visible Haki imbuing — but any sword wielded by a Yonko-level Conqueror's Haki user becomes extraordinary through its master's power alone.
