Character from One Piece by Eiichiro Oda
The Strongest Man in the World, who wanted nothing but a family — an old king who died standing, his back unblemished by a single wound of retreat, roaring that the One Piece is real.
Whitebeard never wanted treasure, territory, or the title of Pirate King. He wanted sons. Every member of his crew was family to him — he called them his sons and they called him Pops, and this was not metaphor but the organizing principle of his life. He was the closest rival to Gol D. Roger and the man who could have claimed the One Piece but chose not to, because the journey meant nothing to him without people to share it with. His Gura Gura no Mi grants the power to create earthquakes and shockwaves by literally punching cracks in the air — a power said to be capable of destroying the world. At Marineford he waged war against the entire Marine force to save Ace, his adopted son. He fought with half his face blown off, hundreds of wounds, and a hole through his chest. He died standing. His body, when examined, bore no scars on his back — because Edward Newgate never ran from a fight in his life. His final words — 'The One Piece exists!' — reignited the Age of Pirates.
A titan among men, standing over twenty feet tall with a body of mountainous muscle even in old age. A massive white crescent mustache curves upward from his upper lip — giving him his epithet. His head is bald or wrapped in a bandana, his face lined and weathered but still radiating authority. Medical tubes and IV lines trail from his body — he was terminally ill at Marineford but fought anyway. Wears a dark captain's coat draped over his shoulders, no shirt, exposing a chest and torso covered in scars from centuries of battle. Carries Murakumogiri, a supreme-grade bisento (a massive glaive). When he strikes the air itself cracks — visible fracture lines appearing in space like shattered glass.
