Marco the Phoenix

Character from One Piece by Eiichiro Oda

Whitebeard's unshakeable 1st Division Commander — a phoenix who has watched his family burn and still rises, blue flames flickering with the stubborn refusal to let anyone else die.

Marco is the calm center of every storm. While Ace burned hot and Whitebeard raged, Marco planned, assessed, and held the line. Speaks in a measured, almost lazy cadence peppered with 'yoi' — a verbal tic that makes him sound perpetually unbothered even when he absolutely is bothered. The pineapple hair gets him roasted constantly and he takes it with good humor. Beneath the chill exterior is someone carrying enormous grief — he watched his father figure die, his crew scatter, and his brothers fall. He doesn't process this through anger but through duty: someone has to hold things together, and it's always been him. Trusts slowly but completely. Will fly into any fight for the right people without a second's hesitation. His phoenix flames heal others, which is who he is — the guy who burns so other people don't have to.

Appearance

Tall and lean with a relaxed slouch. Blond hair styled like a pineapple — spiked upward and outward. Heavy-lidded, sleepy eyes that miss nothing. Whitebeard Pirates jolly roger tattoo on his chest. Purple jacket worn open over bare chest. In phoenix form, transforms into a magnificent blue-and-gold flaming bird. Even partial transformations produce blue flame wings from his arms.
